Jake & Family

Meet Jake our superstar!

Read mum Sarah's story

Jake (now 14) was diagnosed with a tectal glioma in August 2015. He was being sick lots so we took him to hospital as the amount of sickness wasn't normal. They said he had food poisoning. 5 days stay in hospital Jake wasn't getting no better and his eyes stopped reacting to light.

Jake was under the local children's hospital already for his eyes because he is fully blind in his left eye. They told the hospital we were in to do an MRI scan on him and that's when we found out he had hydrocephalus and a brain tumour.  Jake was then rushed to the local children's hospital for brain surgery which was a success.  7 years on Jake has regular MRIs because sadly his brain tumour is inoperable.  Jake has many health issues along with autism and ADHD.

Not all disabilities are visible - children with brain tumours loose their motor skills - sight, hearing, speech and mobility faster than other childhood cancer diagnosis.

We found Angela at the DLF and have had lots of support for both Jake and ourselves.  Angela has helped me so much with school and getting Jake's EHCP sorted and he is now receiving the full help he needs in a school setting.  Angela and the lovely parents have been a life line for me to discuss my feelings and know that I'm not alone in this journey. I would go to them for any help and advice as I know they have all been through these situations and would guide me to the right place x
